Dear Member,

As Shrewsbury born Charles Darwin wrote in his theory of Evolution … “that over time we need to adapt and change in order to survive”, it’s quite apt as a charity the Shrewsbury based League of Friends are adapting to change by giving our full support to Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital (SaTH). As services rightly become more organised on clinical pathways, rather than geography this will benefit all the communities that the League of Friends and SaTH strive to support; hence the need to change our name and our Constitution to reflect this.

The Hospital Transformation Programme at Shrewsbury Hospital has now begun with the Outpatients entrance being closed as building work commences to extend the hospital; meanwhile our four shops continue to be very busy serving their customers whilst adjusting to the daily challenges that the new development is bringing. We are very lucky to have a marvellous team who keep our four shops running smoothly and I would like to express a ‘special thank you’ to you all for your hard work and commitment, along with a warm welcome to our newest recruits and volunteers.

Our Fundraising committee as always have been busy throughout the summer months organising a variety of wonderful events, supported by the kindness and generosity of people o ering their beautiful homes and their time, for which we are most grateful. Berrington and Whitchurch branch too have been busy generating extra funds by holding events in their local communities. Huge thanks to all the members of our committees and the two branches for giving their time so freely to raise money to help improve patient care.

We have several fun events planned for the coming months so please join us if you can.

Yours sincerely,
Susan Hurdiss, Organising Secretary
