The League of Friends of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital raised the sum through the annual draw with the winners drawn by Daniel Kawczynski, MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, and Ray Smith, Executive Chairman of the Friends.

The League of Friends has donated more than £1.6 million over the last two years which has directly benefited patients and staff at the hospital through the purchase of new equipment.

Mr Kawczynski said: “I am delighted to have been asked to perform the League of Friends’ Summer Draw with money raised from the sale of raffle tickets. Together with funds generated through the Friends’ four coffee shops at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, fundraising events and generous donations and legacies have enabled them to donate over £1.6 million over the last two years for the purchase of vital hospital equipment. I would like to applaud the dedication and commitment of the many volunteers that give their time for the benefit of others.”

Mr Smith said: “Our summer raffle this year has raised the fantastic sum of just over £3,000 which will be used to purchase much needed equipment for our hospital. We are, as ever, extremely grateful to the wonderful people of Shropshire and mid Wales for their generosity and unstinting support in achieving this superb result.”

Professor Peter Latchford, Chair of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust which runs the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, said: “The League of Friends and their supporters work tirelessly to fundraise on behalf of their local hospital and buy equipment which will benefit our patients and staff. They have again been incredibly supportive this year, raising funds for a variety of equipment.

“We are always grateful for all of their efforts and support. On behalf of the Trust I would like to thank the League of Friends for organising another successful summer draw and for their outstanding fundraising efforts.”
